#digitalization

According to the Bertelsmann-Foundation, it is broad consensus that digitalization is one of the central issues for the future of vocational training. But what is meant by digitization? The change in production processes? Or is it about learning with digital media, such as the use of learning apps in vocational schools and virtual reality glasses in the training workshop? Or is it ultimately about the question of which professions will disappear from the scene and which will emerge in the course of digitization? The diversity of the questions alone shows that digitization marks a complex, long-term change process with different facets and far-reaching consequences. It is important to recognize the opportunities and risks in this change process and to quickly set the course for future-oriented vocational training. The initiative “Chance Bildung” (Chance Education) has dedicated itself to these questions and has identified educational policy fields of action in digitization in vocational training. These refer to vocational schools, companies and inter-company training centers. The initiative “Chance Bildung” clearly positions itself against the assumption that digitization is a purely technological process to which all areas of society are exposed and to which they can only react. Rather, the basic concern is to find a creative and value-based approach to the challenges of digitization. To this end, a distinction is made between three levels on which vocational training has to deal with digitization. The initiative has formulated theses on the specific design needs for all three levels:

  1. Training organization: Ensure technological equipment, (Joint) qualification of teaching and training staff, Strengthen cooperation within and between learning locations, Ensure schooling in the area
  2. Didactics: Ensure “digital literacy” for all young people, Enable access to new knowledge, Strengthening skills that are difficult to replace by machines, Check didactic added value
  3. Order work: Customize job profiles, Establish further training as early as during training and connect it – also institutionally
