More money for baker apprentices

Bread is an important part of German food culture. Nevertheless, the number of apprentices has been falling for years. To attract more young people to training in the bakery trade, the Federation of the bakers and the union food – pleasure – restaurants have agreed that the education salary increased by 115 euros it is now at 615 euros in the first year.
„With this collective agreement, we have succeeded in making the bakery trade more attractive to young people, and the apprentices are receiving more appreciation,“ said Guido Zeitler, Deputy NGG Chairman. „Above all for the apprentices in the first year of apprenticeship, the remuneration increases above average. Now it’s up to employers to continue investing in the quality of education to secure the future of the industry. “
